Have You Heard of Morso? London’s Latest Supper Club

Restaurants in London are constantly popping up, with a number of Italian eateries opening in the past few weeks. The latest to join the club is Morso, who have been putting on events for the past year. Their focus is on pasta, small plates, and Grappa. Last month, I attended their Halloween special.

This time, their pop up was at Vagabond in Highbury. We were greeted with Grappa cocktail, the Luster Duster โ€“ a sparkly, green, apple concoction. For those who aren’t familiar with Grappa (like me), it is an Italian grape-based pomace brandy.

Chef Paolo Vernettiโ€™s (formerly of Jamieโ€™s Italian) menu begins with crispy Risotto bites with Pumpkin Purรฉe + Mozarrella. Creamy Pea + Pecorino D.O.P. sauce.

Our second course was thinly sliced Beef Carpaccio with Rocket, Mustard, Lemon Mayonnaise + Parmigiano. I love cured meats and anything tartare or carpaccio-like, so this went down a treat. A precise amount of beef with just the right ingredients to complement the taste.

Next up was an Organic Egg Yolk Ravioli. Another great dish which revealed a perfectly cooked egg when cut into. Ultimate #yolkporn ๐Ÿณ

The main (well, biggest) course consisted of Fresh potato Gnocci with slow cooked Onions, Carrots and Parmigiano reggiano. By this point I was so full that I couldn’t finish what was on my plate. The taste was ok, but nothing to shout about. A little too meaty and heavy after 3 plates but well worth the money if you are paying ๐Ÿ’ธ

Dessert came in the form of cute Halloween plant pots filled with Tiramisu made with Dark Chocolate Crumbs + Marsala wine. It wasn’t the best Tiramisu I’ve ever had but it was a welcome delight after so much food. Light, refreshing and good to look at ๐Ÿ˜

Morso’s supperclub was unlike any I have been to before. From the Grappa cocktails, to the dessert – everything was unique and tasty. While the drinks weren’t to my taste, the food was enjoyable and well worth a visit.

If you are bored of the same old dinners out and looking for a different type of dining experience, then head to Morso. They have begun a new residency at The Dining Room in Gailโ€™s Bakery Bloomsbury and will be serving food and drinks every Thursday and Friday from 5pm. Get your fix of Grappa cocktails, small bites and fresh pasta!

Find Morso online and on Instagram.
