Flower Power: The Bloom Room at P.F. Chang’s Asian Table

Is it just me, or has London gone full-on floral this spring? From iconic members clubs sporting flowery fronts to wisteria hysteria spreading across Instagram like wildfire and a whole host of botanical-led gin pop-ups, we can’t get enough. One central London spot that’s marking sakura season is P.F. Chang’s Asian Table and I was invited down to see the restaurant’s stunning Bloom Room in all its glory.

Paying homage to the iconic Japanese cherry blossom, P.F. Chang’s has introduced the subterranean Bloom Room. With a canopy of flowers and an installation winding up the stairs and a dedicated drinks and dessert menu, spring has well and truly sprung at this Covent Garden favourite.

Seasonal cocktails include the vodka-fuelled Sakura Dream (£12) and alcohol-free Sakura Cooler (£8), but we couldn’t resist a taste of the Bar Lab’s Xiāng Xiāng Fizz and Luck + Fortune. Paired with the legendary dynamite shrimp, this was the perfect start to what I hoped would be a tasty meal.

With only a few tables in the underground space, the Bloom Room felt like such an intimate setting. Delicate decor contrasted with meaty dishes like pork dumplings and honey chicken; the ideal hideaway whether you came to Instagram the interiors or chow down on quality Asian dishes.

From tempura cauliflower drenched in spicy Korean Gochujang sauce to 24-hour-marinated rib-eye steak paired with wasabi mash, the food was impressive. While the mash could have done with a proper hot kick, everything else was up to scratch. Even the Pink Paradise macaron – bursting with dollops of matcha ganache and fresh strawberries – was a hit. The Insta-baiting interiors may have lured me in, but I’ll definitely be returning for those sexy little numbers like dynamite shrimp and honey chicken.
