A cultural hub for creatives, tourists and foodies, Whitworth Locke is an affordable hotel in Manchester city centre. Nestled bang in-between Piccadilly and Oxford Road stations – and coming in at around £100 for 2 nights – the design hotspot is a great rest stop for a weekend away. Here’s what I thought when I booked Locke Hotels’ Northern outpost for a romantic weekend away…

In a nutshell: Aparthotel with pink rooms, leafy corners and hipster feels
Bed + bath: Minimal with a waterfall shower, kitchenette and small living area
Food + drink: Food comes in the form of Peruvian plates from Peru Perdu
Arriving a few hours before check-in on a Friday afternoon, we ditched our bags in favour of cocktails. Glancing on a map, the hotel’s Cotton Factory location might seem like it’s not quite in the centre, but we were able to walk to the likes of the Northern Quarter and Spinningfields in 15 minutes… perfect for a couple of tipples at The Ivy and The Oast House.
The room itself is full of muted pink tones, modern fixtures and a modest living area which is perfect for catching a little TV over breakfast… oh, did I mention there was a kitchenette? Fully matte black for maximum Insta points. If you don’t fancy cooking, then there’s South American residency Peru Perdu; serving everything from pisco sour-fuelled brunches to ceviche and steak. That’s me sorted.
